Yup, looks cool... pity it comes from the company that has nothing to do with making cool things. And, it, if we keep watching, it is just a fake promise of bright tech future. Half the things shown in the video are just "Minority Report" stuff, breathtaking but with less usability than a simple mouse+keyboard solution we're using now. And some are just nonsense like that newspapers with dynamic page content with more than one page.

Though, if touch devices become that cheap as presented in the video, someone will make something useful out of them. So, it is optimistic after all....

I loved this video. It was cool to imagine the two children standing on opposite sides of displays that were thousands of miles apart. I was also struck by the reduction in the number of people... My immediate reaction to that was also positive.

As someone who loved the tech of "The Minority Report" and an Uber Geek, I was glad to see the creative use of technology embedded in the surrounding environment. I would much rather gesture and use voice commands than have to use a rigid device like a keyboard or mouse. I also think getting rid of "Interface Islands" and common data exchange is a worthy goal.

If you look closely, you will notice that the "nonsensical" digital paper is actually a single page that can be reconfigured by "folding," to display information in multiple layouts. This single invention, if "perfected," could have a profound positive impact on both how we use information as well as natural resources. Just think of how many trees this could save and the energy savings associated with paper production, shipment, collection, disposal and even recycling!

I'm an optimist and look forward to using many of the technologies presented within my lifetime. I hope this video is show to every 5th - 9th grader in the world, to encourage them to pursue science and technology as a career field.

Oh, I absolutely support any idea of letting trees live their lives and not ending up as substratum for boring text :) Especially if the replacement is not one-time use piece of plastic which would be even worse solution. But, they'll probably make those things flexible and durable enough so we can take them in our pockets. I love that idea of transferring page from the web on something I can take to the bed or outside.

But, while touch screens sound interesting for moving icons around, I couldn't live without keyboard, not even with speach recognition systems. Some old solutions are just simpler.
